‘It’s just the way we roll': Sen. Mary Landrieu defends keg stand photos

@StevenTDennis who is a keg stand critic?

— Reid J. Epstein (@reidepstein) September 22, 2014

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) gained a great deal of attention for a bit of constituent outreach last weekend, when she helped a man do a keg stand at a Louisiana State University tailgating event. The photo was disseminated widely on social media, and Monday Landrieu defended the photo, saying “It’s just the way we roll.”

"They need to get a sense of humor, and they need to get a life — it’s just the way we roll" Landrieu on keg stand http://t.co/PVBkjVKPk2

— Emily Cahn (@CahnEmily) September 22, 2014

According to a piece in Roll Call, Landrieu said that Republican critics of her keg stand “need to get a sense of humor, and they need to get a life — it’s just the way we roll.”

More #kegstand Q's: Has @MaryLandrieu ever done a keg stand? How many seconds did the constituent last as she poured? Will he vote for her?

I guess I'm just really charmed by this keg stand business. It worked on me.

@joshgerstein @OKnox @SenLandrieu I commend the man for managing a keg stand at his advanced age.

MSNBC slams Romney with Obama’s ‘revenge’ remark; Matthews cries ‘racist’

Truth doesn’t matter to MSNBC, silly! That’s right, the hacks at MSNBC pulled a Reuters and carried heavy water for Obama by twisting around his revenge comment in an attempt to slam Romney for it. Look at the fallacious headline, tweeted out by MSNBC.

Romney’s 11th hour attack: REVENGE on.msnbc.com/Ush4Zr

— Loren Heal (@lheal) November 5, 2012

Yep. You see, there is yet another new entry in the Handbook of Racial Code Words. Pointing out someone’s use of the word revenge? Totally racist.

More from the shameless lapdogs at MSNBC:

Mitt Romney’s campaign shifted gears Saturday to add a new eleventh hour attack line to the candidate’s closing argument, going after President Obama’s declaration on the stump Friday that “voting is the best revenge.”

The strategy appears designed to stoke enthusiasm among conservatives, by playing on existing far-right criticisms of Obama, including the notion that he harbors race-based resentment against America.

So pitiful that it would almost be hilarious. If, you know, it wasn’t so disgusting. If anyone is fueling race-based anything, it is the lapdogs in the media. Their bias is now media malpractice.

Twitter users rightly give MSNBC the business.

More on the totally delusional Matthews from Mediaite:

Wagner asked Matthews to weigh in on the theme of “revenge,” which PresidentBarack Obama inserted into the dialogue when he told a crowd that “voting is the best revenge.” Matthews admitted he did not know where the theme of “revenge” came from. When told by Wagner that Obama had invoked it first on the stump, Matthews criticized Mitt Romney for running with it. He said it was “of a piece” with the “dirty talk” and the “ethnic stuff” that he believes the Romney campaign has been stoking for some time.

After Wagner played a clip of Mitt Romney rehashing a line that president Obama said on the campaign trail — that “voting is the best revenge” — Matthews admitted that he was unaware how the “revenge” theme had come from.

Whatever! Pesky things like facts don’t matter. He doesn’t know who actually brought up the talk of revenge, but if Romney points it out? RAAAACIST.

Matthews had no idea where “revenge” theme came from. When told it was Obama, says Romney stoking racial hatred anyway. mediaite.com/tv/matthews-un…

Twitter reportedly losing money, by the millions

Here’s an excerpt from All Things D (Digital):

Gawker’s Ryan Tate got his hands on what he believes are recent financials for Twitter. I assume that his numbers are correct, and applaud him for getting them out there. But I think he’s doing a bad job of reading them.
Twitter is the “biggest blown business opportunity in media or tech,” Tate says, because six years into it, it’s losing money, not minting it like Facebook.
It’s certainly no Facebook. It probably won’t ever be anything like Facebook.
But Tate’s numbers do describe Twitter as a rapidly growing media company.
In 2010, the year it started making tentative moves into advertising, it generated $28.5 million in revenue. In the first three months of 2011, it came close to matching all of the previous year’s revenue, with $23.8 million. If Twitter’s growth rate never budged after that, that would put it on track to do $95.2 million in 2011.

One girl put it best:

Yeah, we couldn’t live without Twitter either.

Pavlich lets Hillary have it on Fox; Suggests miniseries titles [video]

Amazon’s Most Recent Innovation: It’s Making A Profit

The massive retailer also revealed that it spent over $1 billion on its streaming video service in 2014.

Getty Images Matthew Lloyd

Amazon has tried a lot of new things in the last year, from becoming a smartphone maker to offering delivery within hours, not days. And Thursday, the company announced another novel development: an unexpectedly profitable quarter.

Amazon’s earnings of $214 million were well above analysts’ expectations. As usual, Amazon continued to grow its sales quickly, going from $25.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013 to $29.3 billion in 2014. The sales figure, however, was slightly below analysts’ expectations of $29.7 billion.

Relative to such giant revenues, the company’s $214 million in profit may seem modest, and it’s short of the $239 million it made a year ago. But the profit is a change from losses of $126 million and $437 million in the last two quarters.

Investors were happy with the results, sending Amazon shares up over 8.5% in after-hours trading.

Like many American companies with large overseas business, Amazon’s bottom line suffered from a strengthening dollar in 2014, which diminished foreign currency earnings. The company said its sales in dollar terms would have been $895 million higher had exchange rates been unmoved in the last year.

Amazon stock is down almost 20% in the last year, after enduring two quarters with bigger losses than usual. The third-quarter loss of $437 million — the biggest quarterly loss in the company’s history — more than offset its full-year profit in 2013, while it also suffered an embarrassing $170 million write-down of its Fire Phone inventory. For all of 2014, Amazon reported a net loss of $241 million.

But these big losses, as Amazon’s patient investors know, are due to the company’s enormous investments in infrastructure and new businesses. Amazon founder and chief executive officer Jeff Bezos said in a statement that Amazon spent $1.3 billion on Prime Instant Video last year. Some of that firehose of cash was directed toward producing original TV shows, including the hit Transparent, which recently won a Golden Globe for best TV series.

Bezos also said that Amazon Prime membership grew 53% in 2014, even though the price jumped from $79 to $99. While Bezos didn’t disclose how many Prime subscribers it has, it did say that the growth came from a base of “tens of millions.” Bezos also said the company spent “billions” on free shipping for Prime users.
